The Project
The Therapist Finder needed a search that helps people find the right therapist near them, by postcode and distance, not just by town name.
The Therapist Finder is a UK directory that helps people find a therapist or counsellor near them.
We were asked to build the heart of the site: a find-a-therapist search that lets visitors search by postcode and choose how far they're willing to travel, alongside filters for session type, practitioner type, speciality and language.
We custom-coded the search from the ground up using open mapping data (OpenStreetMap), with no paid map licence. A visitor enters a postcode, picks a radius from 1 to 50 miles, and the search calculates the distance to every therapist and shows results sorted by how close they are.
Results appear as clean profile cards showing distance, and they combine with filters for session type, practitioner type, speciality and language. Visitors can also save therapists to come back to.
People can now find a therapist within a set distance of their own postcode, with results ordered by distance and refined by the support they need, all built on open data.
