More and more people are building their first website with AI tools like Lovable, Bolt or ChatGPT. You type what you want, and a few minutes later there’s a site on your screen. It’s genuinely impressive.
Then comes the awkward bit: getting it online on your own domain, with email that works, forms that actually reach you and something Google can make sense of. That’s where a lot of people get stuck, and it’s the part this guide is about.
One thing to be clear on first. At InfaCloud we build custom websites, designed and written by people, not generated by AI. But if you’ve already built something with an AI tool and you want it hosted somewhere reliable in the UK, we can help with that, and we’ll check it over for free before it goes live on our servers.
Where AI Website Builders Host Your Site
Most AI builders will publish your site for you on their own address, something like yourname.lovable.app or a bolt.host link. That’s fine for showing a friend, but it isn’t something you’d put on a van or a business card.
To use your own domain you’ll usually need one of their paid plans, and those are priced in dollars every month for as long as you keep the site there. At the time of writing, Bolt’s custom domains need its Pro plan, and Lovable’s need a paid plan too. Prices change often, so check their pricing pages before you commit.
Developers will often tell you to export the code and put it on a free host such as Netlify, Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages instead. That works if you’re comfortable with code, build settings and DNS records. Most small business owners aren’t, and that’s completely fair.
What AI-Built Websites Usually Leave Out
The AI does a good job of the bit you can see. The problems tend to be in the bits you can’t:
- Business email. A site on your domain doesn’t give you [email protected]. That needs setting up separately, along with the records that stop your emails landing in spam.
- Contact forms that reach you. Forms often look fine but send nowhere, or get flooded with spam because there’s no protection on them.
- The Google basics. Page titles, descriptions, headings and a sitemap are often missing or the same on every page, so Google struggles to work out what you do.
- Privacy and cookies. If your site collects details or uses tracking, UK law expects a privacy notice and, in many cases, cookie consent.
- Security. This is the one people don’t think about until something goes wrong. More on that below.
- Someone to call. When something breaks, an AI tool can’t pick up the phone.
Free Security Check Before We Host Your AI Site
AI tools write code very quickly, but they don’t always write it safely. Before we host any AI-built website on our servers, we run a free security check over it. It’s included, there’s no catch, and you’ll get a plain-English summary of anything we find.
Things we look for include:
- Passwords, API keys or secret keys left visible in the site’s code
- Databases that anyone can read from or write to, a common issue with apps built on tools like Supabase
- Admin or test pages left open to the public
- Forms that can be abused to send spam or collect data insecurely
- Outdated code libraries with known security problems
- Missing HTTPS and basic security settings
If we find something serious, we’ll tell you before anything goes live, and explain how it can be fixed. You can fix it yourself, ask your AI tool to fix it, or ask us to.
Free Hosting Or Managed UK Hosting?
Free hosting is great for hobby projects and for people who enjoy the technical side. If that’s you, go for it.
If your website is there to bring in work, it’s worth having someone looking after it. With our website hosting you get your domain connected, an SSL certificate that renews itself, business email set up correctly, and direct support from people who answer when you message. No call centres, and no long contracts.
When It’s Time For A Custom Website
AI-built sites are a good way to test an idea. But if you find your site isn’t ranking, isn’t bringing in enquiries, or doesn’t really feel like your business, that’s usually the point to have one built for you. We wrote an honest piece on that question: Should I Hire a Web Designer or Just Use AI?
Every website we build is designed around your business, written for your customers and set up for Google from day one. No templates and no AI-generated sites. Websites built by people, not prompts.
Frequently Asked Questions
(01)Can You Host A Website I Built With Lovable, Bolt Or ChatGPT?
In most cases, yes. If your tool lets you download or export the site, we can host it on your own domain. Send us what you’ve got and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’ll work.
(02)Is The Security Check Really Free?
Yes. We run it on every AI-built site before we host it, because we don’t want insecure sites on our servers either. There’s no charge and no obligation.
(03)Do You Build AI Websites?
No. We build custom websites by hand. We’ll happily host a site you’ve made with AI, but every site we design ourselves is built and written by people.
(04)Can I Keep Editing My Site In The AI Tool?
Usually, yes. When you make changes, you export the updated version and we put it live for you. We’ll talk you through the simplest way to do that for the tool you’re using.
